Lula holds a commanding lead in trader pricing for first place in Paraíba's October 2026 first-round presidential vote due to his position as incumbent from the Workers' Party and entrenched support in Brazil's Northeast. Recent developments reinforcing this include Chamber of Deputies Speaker Hugo Motta, a Paraíba native, publicly endorsing Lula's reelection bid in mid-August amid local party alignments favoring PT-backed state candidates. National polling trends showing Lula at 38–44% in first-round scenarios, well ahead of Flávio Bolsonaro and fragmented challengers, align with historical regional voting patterns. A late consolidation of opposition votes or shifts in turnout among key blocs could narrow the margin, though no such movement has materialized in the current campaign window.
