Lula maintains a commanding lead in trader consensus for first place in Pernambuco’s October 2026 first-round presidential vote, reflecting the state’s status as a historic Workers’ Party stronghold and his birthplace in Garanhuns. National polling averages through mid-August show him ahead of Flavio Bolsonaro by several points in simulated first-round scenarios, with the gap wider in northeastern states where PT support has remained durable. Recent campaign launches have reinforced regional messaging on social programs and sovereignty, while opposition candidates including Bolsonaro, Zema, and Caiado register minimal state-level momentum. A late shift could occur only through major economic deterioration, a significant scandal affecting Lula’s approval, or an unexpectedly strong regional surge by right-wing contenders before election day.
