Traders have converged on a 68-69°F high for Seattle on September 2 because official observations from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport recorded a peak temperature in that narrow range amid a strong early-September cold front. Persistent cloud cover, gusty southerly winds, and widespread showers kept daytime maxima well below the 1991-2020 climatological average of 73.9°F, with preliminary National Weather Service data showing readings clustered near 67°F before final quality control adjustments. This outcome aligns with the broader cooldown pattern across western Washington, where model consensus correctly anticipated limited solar heating and marine influence. The positioning could shift only if post-event data revisions or alternate station measurements place the official high outside the 68-69°F bin, though such changes remain rare for surface temperature records.
