Forecast models from NOAA and local meteorological services point to a mid-80s high in New York City today, driven by southwest winds of 5–10 mph, partial afternoon clearing after morning showers, and elevated humidity supporting heat index values near 90°F. The tight split between 84–85°F and 86–87°F outcomes reflects minor model differences in storm timing and cloud cover that could add or subtract a degree or two before peak heating. Historical averages near 80°F provide context, yet recent patterns show greater variability from lingering moisture. Real-time observations at Central Park will determine final resolution as conditions evolve through the afternoon.
