Recent opinion polls for the September 6 Sachsen-Anhalt Landtagswahl show the AfD holding a clear lead near 42 percent while the CDU remains stable in second place around 23 percent, well ahead of Die Linke near 13 percent and trailing parties below 7 percent. This positioning reflects the CDU's consistent performance as the main opposition to the leading party in eastern state contests, supported by its established voter base and lack of recent erosion comparable to smaller parties. The three-week timeline to election day leaves limited room for major shifts, reinforcing trader consensus on the CDU finishing second. Late-campaign developments such as unexpected turnout surges among smaller parties, coalition announcements, or significant scandals could narrow margins, though current data indicate these would require substantial movement to alter the outcome.
