The 2026 South African municipal elections on 4 November leave Nelson Mandela Bay’s mayoral contest highly uncertain, with traders pricing multiple candidates near even odds amid an open field. Current ANC mayor Babalwa Lobishe leads internal nominations alongside Andile Lungisa, Siva Pillay and others, while the DA has confirmed Retief Odendaal as its candidate and the EFF has backed Sinawo Thambo. Historical coalition dynamics in the metro, where no party has secured an outright majority in recent cycles, keep probabilities compressed as parties negotiate alliances and finalize lists. Recent ANC nomination interviews and DA campaign launches on service delivery have yet to produce clear separation, though shifts in coalition arithmetic, final party selections, or polling on key wards could quickly reorder the market.
