Early buzz for the 2027 Best Actor Oscar race centers on high-profile releases like Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, where Matt Damon’s lead performance has generated significant industry attention following the film’s strong box office opening and critical notice. Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Digger is positioning Tom Cruise for a major campaign push, while titles such as Elsinore (Andrew Scott) and Wild Horse Nine (John Malkovich) are building precursor momentum through festival screenings and guild attention. Traders are monitoring fall festival results, critics’ group wins, and SAG-AFTRA nominations as early signals, given how these historically shape Academy voting in a category that rewards established stars with strong narrative support. Upcoming wide releases and review aggregators will likely drive the next shifts in sentiment.
