Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah holds the strongest position in the Enugu 2027 gubernatorial race after defecting from the PDP to the APC in October 2025 and securing near-unanimous affirmation as the APC nominee in May 2026 primaries with over 96 percent support. Multiple senatorial zones and stakeholder groups have endorsed his re-election bid, citing infrastructure projects, economic initiatives, and alignment with federal priorities, including his August 2026 appointment as APC South-East presidential campaign coordinator. These developments have consolidated APC momentum ahead of the February 6, 2027 poll. Opposition candidates, including PDP nominee Uche Nnaji, factional PDP contender Dona Nwogbo, and NDC candidate James Ene Nwannaji, face structural challenges from party divisions and limited statewide backing, reflected in current trader pricing that assigns Mbah the clear lead while leaving room for shifts from primary outcomes or coalition realignments.
