Recent Eurozone HICP data showing a July 2026 reading of 2.9%, up from 2.8% in June, has reinforced trader positioning toward the 3.1%+ annual outcome at 59.9% implied probability, driven primarily by energy inflation surging to 10.0% amid renewed geopolitical pressures. Sticky services inflation near 3.3% and core measures at 2.5% further support expectations that the full-year average will exceed 3.0%, outweighing the June de-escalation in Middle East tensions that eased some near-term oil prices. Professional forecasters in the ECB’s Q3 Survey project 2.7% for 2026, yet the market-implied distribution—with the 2.8–3.0% band at just 16.4%—reflects ongoing uncertainty over persistent input costs and limited pass-through relief. Key upcoming releases, including August inflation figures and the September ECB policy decision, will test whether these pressures moderate or sustain the elevated path.
