Recent July 2026 CPI data showed China's annual inflation easing to 0.5% year-over-year, the lowest reading since January, driven by falling food prices including pork amid ample supply and subdued consumer demand, alongside softer non-food categories such as transport and housing. Persistent weakness in domestic consumption and the property sector has kept price pressures contained despite earlier policy support measures. Analyst forecasts for the full-year 2026 average cluster around 0.8-1.2%, reflecting these trends and limited pass-through from global energy or commodity movements. This environment has concentrated trader positioning on the 0.6-1.0% band as the consensus outcome, with adjacent lower ranges also supported by ongoing deflationary signals in producer prices and core measures.
