She secured the role in 2022 by defeating Deirdre Newman and has maintained visibility through official statements on housing incentives, transit planning, tariffs, and homelessness initiatives. Her main challengers are Regional Councillor Chris Leahy at 12% and Harshini Rajmohan at 10%, following the final certified candidate list released in late August that confirmed only these three contenders. Leahy’s prior code-of-conduct issues and longstanding council tensions with Roy appear to limit his momentum, while Rajmohan remains lesser-known.
