This market will resolve to "Yes" if the World Health Organization (WHO) declares any disease a pandemic between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source will be official announcements from the World Health Organization. No new pandemic has emerged through mid-2026, as official surveillance by the WHO and CDC shows no novel pathogen meeting the criteria of sustained global transmission combined with high severity. Current epidemiological data indicate stable circulation of known respiratory viruses like influenza and SARS-CoV-2 variants without evidence of exponential growth or immune escape capable of triggering a declared pandemic. Historical patterns further support trader consensus, with major outbreaks occurring roughly once per decade rather than annually. Market-implied odds of 93.5% for no event reflect this baseline plus the absence of concerning signals in genomic sequencing and case reports. A realistic challenge could arise from an undetected zoonotic spillover or rapid variant evolution in the remaining months, though model consensus places such risks below 10% for the year.
