Recent July PPI data, which printed at 4.7% year-over-year—below the 4.9% consensus and down from June’s 5.5%—provides the immediate anchor for August expectations, reflecting goods deflation offset by modest services gains amid lower energy prices. With the August report due September 10, trader probabilities cluster tightly around 4.6–5.1% outcomes, signaling balanced views on whether cooling momentum persists or recent commodity rebounds and resilient final demand services push the figure modestly higher. Core measures excluding food and energy, which eased to 4.2% in July, and broader labor-market and Treasury yield signals will shape revisions ahead of the release, underscoring uncertainty in the near-term inflation path.
