OpenAI’s GPT Image 2 leads text-to-image benchmarks with top Elo scores on Artificial Analysis and arena leaderboards as of mid-August 2026, driving its 77% market-implied odds for the strongest model by end of October. The April 2026 release excels in prompt adherence, text rendering, photorealism, and integrated editing within ChatGPT, outpacing rivals like Reve 2.1, Google’s Nano Banana Gemini variants, Microsoft’s MAI-Image models, Midjourney V8.1, Ideogram 4, and FLUX.2 from Black Forest Labs. Traders see limited near-term disruption from competitors given OpenAI’s consistent lead and ecosystem advantages, though new model drops or major capability jumps could shift sentiment before October resolution.
