Andy Burnham’s recent transition to prime minister after Keir Starmer’s June resignation has centered trader attention on his first post-recess PMQs, expected in September. His early speeches emphasizing “Manchesterism,” devolution via a “Number 10 North” hub, major council housebuilding, and immediate cost-of-living relief have set the narrative for opening exchanges with Kemi Badenoch. Predecessor PMQs featured pointed Tory attacks on Labour figures and defence funding gaps, foreshadowing scrutiny of Burnham’s fiscal approach and collaborative style. Cabinet appointments and his vow to “rewire” the state without breaking fiscal rules further frame expectations, with traders watching for how he handles direct questions on economic pressures and regional power shifts that defined his leadership campaign.
