Early in the 2027 Oscars cycle for Best International Feature Film, trader sentiment reflects an unusually open field, with frontrunners like Fjord, All of a Sudden, La Bola Negra, Minotaur, and Fatherland clustered near the top as countries finalize submissions ahead of the September 30 deadline. Festival premieres, director track records—such as Ryûsuke Hamaguchi’s established acclaim—and strong distributor backing from Neon and Netflix are shaping early momentum, while historical voting patterns favor films with distinctive national voices and critical consensus. The wide spread among other contenders underscores the unpredictability before guild and precursor signals emerge.
