AfD leads recent opinion polls for the September 20, 2026 Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Landtag election by several points, typically at 35-36 percent compared with SPD figures around 28-29 percent. This positioning as the largest party underpins the market's heavy weighting toward AfD securing the plurality of seats. The incumbent SPD-Left government, led by Minister-President Manuela Schwesig, trails amid regional strength for AfD in eastern states, while CDU, Linke, and smaller parties remain well behind in surveys and hold negligible implied probabilities of finishing first. With the vote still weeks away, late shifts in turnout or campaigning could narrow margins, though current polling trends sustain trader consensus on the frontrunner.
