Recent polls for Berlin's September 20 state election place the CDU narrowly ahead of the AfD in second or third place, with the CDU at 19-20% and the AfD at 16-19% across INSA, Infratest dimap, and Civey surveys conducted in July and August 2026. The CDU's replacement of lead candidate Kai Wegner with Stefan Evers after the tennis-gate controversy has stabilized its support, while the AfD's national gains have not fully translated in the capital's urban electorate. Traders assign the CDU a 73% chance of finishing ahead on vote share, consistent with the current polling gap and the structural barriers the AfD faces in Berlin despite broader right-wing momentum elsewhere in Germany. No single late-breaking event has altered the relative positioning in the past month.
