Recent polls for the September 20, 2026, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Landtag election show the AfD holding a steady lead over the SPD, with the far-right party at approximately 36% and the center-left incumbent at 29% in surveys from INSA and Infratest dimap conducted in July and August 2026. This represents a sharp reversal from the 2021 result, where the SPD secured 39.6% and the AfD only 18%. The gap has narrowed slightly from earlier 2026 readings but remains consistent, driven by sustained AfD strength in eastern Germany amid broader regional trends visible ahead of parallel contests in Saxony-Anhalt. Incumbent Minister-President Manuela Schwesig’s SPD-Left government has seen modest recovery in support but trails on key voter priorities, while AfD candidate Leif-Erik Holm benefits from consolidated opposition sentiment. Traders price the AfD ahead at high probability because no late polling reversal or structural barrier has emerged to alter the projected first-place finish between the two parties.
