Nicolás Maduro and his wife remain in U.S. federal custody in Brooklyn following their January 2026 capture during a U.S. military operation and face narco-terrorism and cocaine importation charges carrying a potential life sentence. A July 2026 ruling set trial for June 2027, with a November 2026 pre-trial hearing on defense motions that include immunity claims tied to his former status as head of state. Traders price 60+ years of prison time and no prison time nearly even because the outcome hinges on unresolved legal challenges, possible plea negotiations, evidentiary rulings, and any intervening political or diplomatic shifts before the trial date. A successful immunity dismissal, acquittal, or substantial sentence reduction would favor the lower end, while conviction on the core counts could push toward the higher ranges.
