**SPD holds a strong lead for second place in the September 20, 2026 Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Landtag election, with recent polls showing the party at 27–29% behind the AfD’s 35–36%.** Consistent surveys from Infratest dimap and INSA through early August confirm this gap, with Die Linke, CDU, BSW, and smaller parties trailing further behind at 3–12%. The incumbent SPD, led by Minister-President Manuela Schwesig, benefits from established regional support and has narrowed the AfD’s lead modestly in the final campaign weeks without threatening first place. Trader pricing reflects this polling stability, with limited volatility expected absent major late shifts in turnout or coalition signals among opposition parties. The election date and five-year cycle further anchor expectations around these trends.
