Somaliland’s parliamentary elections, originally slated for 2026, were postponed to March 2027 after lawmakers approved term extensions amid ongoing disputes over constitutional amendments, electoral preparations, and resource constraints. These delays reflect recurring patterns of elite negotiations and institutional adjustments that have shifted the timeline multiple times in recent years. Traders assign overwhelming probability to no vote occurring before 2027 because scheduled reforms and logistical hurdles have not yet been resolved. Potential shifts could arise from successful resolution of partisan disagreements, accelerated funding or technical assistance for voter registration, or court rulings that enforce an earlier date, though such developments would require rapid political consensus in a system where term extensions have become normalized.
