Regional elections to elect the Regional Council of Skåne, Sweden are scheduled to take place on September 13, 2026. This market will resolve to the next individual who officially assumes the office of Chair of the Regional Board of Region Skåne following the 2026 Swedish regional elections. To count for resolution, the individual must be formally elected by the relevant regional council as Chair of the Regional Board. Any interim or caretaker Chair will not count toward the resolution of this market. If no such Chair takes office by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the government of Sweden and Region Skåne; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used. The upcoming September 2026 regional elections in Sweden create the primary uncertainty for Region Skåne’s board chair, with current chair Carl Johan Sonesson (Moderates) and opposition figure Henrik Fritzon (Social Democrats) emerging as the clearest contenders amid fragmented coalition possibilities. Recent council records show Sonesson holding the post since 2018 after a shift from Social Democratic leadership, while Fritzon serves as a leading opposition voice on the regionstyrelse and related committees. Anna Jähnke (Moderates) and other listed names reflect internal party dynamics and potential coalition partners that could influence the final appointment once fullmäktige convenes. Trader pricing remains tightly clustered because national and regional polling trends, turnout in key municipalities, and post-election negotiations have not yet produced decisive separation, leaving room for late shifts from alliance formations or seat distributions. Scheduled election results and subsequent government talks within the resolution window represent the main near-term catalysts.
