KMT Legislator Hsu Hsin-ying secured her party's nomination for Hsinchu County magistrate in a March 2026 primary, defeating Deputy Magistrate Chen Chien-hsien amid internal disputes over the selection process. The KMT has controlled the county government since 2001, and recent party efforts have emphasized unity ahead of the November 28, 2026 vote. The Democratic Progressive Party nominated Zhubei Mayor Cheng Chao-fang in June 2026 as its challenger. Trader pricing on Polymarket reflects this positioning, with Hsu Hsin-ying as the clear frontrunner at 67.5% implied probability, Cheng Chao-fang at 27%, and lower shares for other listed contenders. The race remains subject to standard variables including turnout, late developments, and any shifts in local voter sentiment before election day.
