This market will resolve according to the winner of the Chess tournament at the 2026 Esports World Cup (EWC 2026), currently scheduled for August 11, 2026 to August 15, 2026. If this tournament is postponed after August 29, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, canceled, or a winner has not been declared within this timeframe, this market will resolve to "Other." If multiple players are declared winner, this market will resolve in favor of the player whose listed name comes first alphabetically. The resolution source for this market will be official information from the tournament organizer, the Esports World Cup (https://esportsworldcup.com); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.Magnus Carlsen enters EWC Chess 2026 as the clear frontrunner at 57.5% implied probability, buoyed by his 2025 title defense and elite performance in rapid and blitz formats that define the Paris event. The short, single-elimination or group-stage structure with 10+0 time controls heightens variance, allowing one off day to eliminate even top seeds and keeping challengers like Alireza Firouzja (16.5%), Hikaru Nakamura (13.0%), and Nodirbek Abdusattorov (11.5%) within striking distance. Recent classical results, including Firouzja’s wins over Carlsen, underscore stylistic matchups and form swings that traders weigh against Carlsen’s historical edge in faster play. This combination of defending champion status, qualified depth via CCT and qualifiers, and format volatility sustains a tight consensus across the field rather than a runaway favorite.
