The Uzbek grandmaster's dominant classical form, including a record 6/7 start, has elevated his live rating roughly 74 points above defending champion Gukesh Dommaraju. Gukesh, at 30.5%, enters as the titleholder after his 2024 win but has posted consistently subpar results throughout 2026, including last-place finishes at Tata Steel, Norway Chess, and the Chennai Grand Masters. The 14-game match in Geneva later this year pits the in-form challenger against a champion facing questions over recent classical struggles, shaping trader consensus around these probabilities.
