Andy Burnham’s recent PMQs appearances as Prime Minister have centered on fiscal discipline, defence spending commitments to 3.5% of GDP by 2035, and welfare reform pressures, shaping trader focus on recurring phrases like budget, defence, or Scotland. His September 2 debut and September 9 follow-up featured sharp exchanges with Kemi Badenoch over Tory legacies, borrowing costs, and not ruling out tax rises, while off-the-cuff remarks on referendums and sanctions added volatility. With party conferences looming and ongoing Ukraine lobbying, markets track how these domestic priorities and opposition attacks will influence word frequency in the next session, where fiscal rules and regional devolution narratives could dominate.
