Persistent sanctions, high inflation exceeding 40%, and recent regional military escalations including naval blockades and air strikes have sustained downward pressure on the Iranian rial, driving free-market USD/IRR rates near or above 1.8 million in mid-August 2026. These factors limit oil export revenues and foreign currency inflows while boosting demand for hard currency amid economic uncertainty. Trader consensus favors the 1.9-2.0 million band as the most probable outcome by month-end, reflecting the ongoing impact of these structural constraints and limited near-term relief from diplomatic or policy shifts. Broader ranges around this level capture modest variations from short-term volatility or incremental developments before the resolution date.
