MLSTP–PSD holds a dominant position in the São Tomé and Príncipe parliamentary election market due to its backing of incumbent President Carlos Vila Nova, who secured re-election as an independent with roughly 56% of the vote in the July 2026 presidential contest against the ADI candidate. This alignment follows the 2025 dismissal of former Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada and the subsequent political realignment that left ADI internally divided while positioning MLSTP as the main force supporting the executive. With voting set for 27 September under proportional representation across 55 National Assembly seats, traders see limited scope for ADI or smaller parties such as MCI-PS/PUN and Basta to overcome the momentum from the presidential outcome and institutional continuity. Late shifts remain possible if turnout falls sharply or unexpected alliances form before election day, though the current pricing reflects the party’s structural advantages heading into the vote.
