Recent seismic activity, including the magnitude 7.4 Colombia earthquake on August 10 and subsequent events near 5.5–5.6 in Alaska, the Kermadec Islands, and the Philippines, has shaped trader views on the final weekly count of M5.5+ quakes. Global rates average roughly one to two such events daily, modulated by subduction-zone tectonics and aftershock sequences that can elevate short-term totals. With four days complete and two remaining, the tight clustering around seven to nine outcomes reflects uncertainty over whether additional moderate quakes or aftershocks will push the tally higher before August 16. USGS monitoring of active regions provides the key near-term data that could shift the distribution.
