Patrick Mahomes' ongoing recovery from knee surgery has limited his preseason work and tempered expectations for the Chiefs' early-season form, contributing to traders viewing the two AFC West matchups as likely to split. The Chargers enter with a healthier offensive line anchored by Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater, plus Mike McDaniel installed as offensive coordinator alongside Jim Harbaugh, enhancing Justin Herbert's efficiency. Both clubs project for similar regular-season win totals near 10, with comparable home/away dynamics and no recent pattern of one-sided series dominance. This roster and situational balance underpins the market's elevated probability on a 1-1 outcome over either team claiming both victories.
