If the result of this election isn’t known by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the result of the election, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the Tonga Electoral Commission (https://elections.gov.to/; https://www.facebook.com/KomisoniFili).The Ongo Niua 17 by-election, set for 8 October 2026, follows the Supreme Court voiding of Lataifaingata’a Tangimana’s 2025 general election win on bribery grounds, which also removed him from the finance portfolio and barred him from standing for five years. Five independent candidates have registered for the small Niuas constituency: ‘Aminiasi Tonga Pau’u Tangimana, Sione Tuifio Hui, ‘Aisake Hoatatau Finau, Sitiveni Selui, and Paea ‘i Vaha Filimoehala, each drawn from different villages.
