A general election is scheduled to be held in New Zealand on November 7, 2026. This market will resolve to the next individual who officially assumes the office of Prime Minister of New Zealand following the 2026 General elections. To count for resolution, the individual must be officially appointed by the Governor-General as Prime Minister of New Zealand. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister will not count toward the resolution of this market. If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of New Zealand; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used. The November 2026 general election remains closely contested, with recent polling showing Labour and National nearly level in party support while preferred prime minister ratings stay split between opposition leader Chris Hipkins and incumbent Christopher Luxon. Luxon’s coalition government, formed with ACT and New Zealand First after 2023, has maintained a narrow parliamentary edge in some surveys but faces soft favorability for the prime minister and recent internal National leadership scrutiny. Hipkins has edged ahead or tied Luxon in multiple preferred-prime-minister measures this year, reflecting voter dissatisfaction with coalition performance on economic and cost-of-living issues. The tight market reflects these narrow polling margins and the short campaign window ahead of the November 7 vote. Further separation could emerge from scheduled leadership tests, economic data releases, or major policy announcements by either major party in the coming months.
