Opposing managers routinely issue IBBs to avoid his .322 average, 35 home runs, and elevated slugging in clutch situations, a pattern reinforced by his consistent production through the first four months. The wisdom of crowds in the prediction market prices this dominance at 89.5% implied probability, accounting for his current pace and historical tendencies among elite sluggers. Shohei Ohtani and other contenders trail due to lower walk rates or different lineup protection, though Alvarez's lead could narrow with an injury, extended slump, or emergence of another middle-order bat posting comparable extra-base totals in the final stretch.
