The Longhorns, ranked No. 5/4 entering camp, feature quarterback Arch Manning and multiple projected early-round NFL prospects on both sides of the ball under Steve Sarkisian, who enters year six with three straight 10-win seasons. Texas State, led by quarterback Brad Jackson, travels roughly 30 miles up I-35 for its first game against Power conference competition since a 1930 loss; the Bobcats enter with an 8-4 projected record in a new conference alignment and limited prior exposure to this level of defensive speed and physicality. Recent camp reports note Texas managing minor flu-related absences and one guard injury without major long-term impact, preserving roster health for the opener. Home-field advantage, superior offensive line play, and special-teams execution figure to widen the margin, though late scratches or weather could influence total scoring.
