This market will resolve to "Yes" if the Pope convokes any ecumenical council between market creation and December 31, 2026, 11:59PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Only ecumenical councils will qualify. Plenary or provincial councils will not be considered. This market will resolve according to announcements from the Pope, Vatican officials, or a consensus of credible reporting. Any official announcement will qualify, regardless of if or when the council actually occurs.Trader consensus on "No" at 96.5% reflects the absence of any official Vatican announcement, preparatory documents, or timeline for an ecumenical council under Pope Leo XIV as of mid-August 2026. The pontiff has instead prioritized catechesis on Vatican II implementation, the close of the Jubilee of Hope, and an extraordinary consistory, consistent with prior papal emphasis that the Church must fully absorb the last council's reforms before considering another. Calls from external figures, such as the Armenian Patriarch in May meetings, remain informal suggestions without Vatican follow-through. With roughly four months left, realistic upset paths are limited to a late-year surprise convocation, though historical patterns and current priorities make that unlikely.
