The tight trader consensus around Édouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal reflects their parallel positioning as former prime ministers seeking to lead a unified centrist bloc into the 2027 contest. Both have distanced themselves from the Macron record while converging on supply-side economic measures, teacher pay increases, and restrictive immigration proposals following the July 2026 Ceuta migrant surge. Recent Harris Interactive polling shows Philippe’s earlier lead narrowing to within the margin of error, with Attal explicitly calling for an open primary and highlighting differing lines on pensions and education. A non-aggression pact until early 2027 and the August 27 MEDEF debate have kept momentum balanced, leaving room for shifts from further unification talks, regional campaigning, or evolving first-round dynamics against stronger far-right and far-left contenders.
