Xinyu Wang enters the Cincinnati Open first-round matchup against Hanne Vandewinkel as the clear ranking favorite, sitting near No. 36-41 on the WTA list compared with Vandewinkel’s position around No. 82-93. Wang has shown solid hard-court results in 2026, including a strong run to the Auckland final and a fourth-round appearance at a major, though recent form includes a loss to Samsonova in Washington. Vandewinkel, a 22-year-old Belgian, posted a strong 33-18 record this season and advanced through qualifying, but faces a significant step up in competition on the Masters 1000 stage. The hard-court surface aligns with both players’ experience, yet Wang’s greater depth, power baseline game, and prior Grand Slam success create a substantial edge in this early-round encounter.
