Maya Joint, the defending 2025 Eastbourne champion, faces veteran Viktorija Golubic in the opening round on grass. Joint leads the head-to-head 2-1 but both prior wins came on hard and clay. Golubic enters with strong momentum after a semifinal run at the 2026 Nottingham Open on the same surface, where she defeated higher-ranked players including Ann Li. Joint, currently ranked No. 53, has shown mixed clay-court results this spring and will need to adapt quickly to grass. The 20-year-old Australian holds a significant age and athletic edge, while the 33-year-old Swiss brings experience and recent confidence on the surface that could extend rallies and test early-match rust.
