Jaume Munar, ranked No. 55 and coming off a six-week injury layoff with a back issue, faces Terence Atmane, No. 90, in a US Open first-round hard-court matchup. Pre-match trader consensus leaned toward the higher-ranked Spaniard despite Atmane’s strong recent hard-court form, including pushing Alexander Zverev to tiebreaks in Cincinnati and a career-high ranking of 41 earlier in 2026. Munar reached the 2025 US Open round of 16 but has shown inconsistent results this season. Atmane, making his US Open main-draw debut, started aggressively by claiming the first two sets before severe cramps forced him to serve underhanded and drop the third 6-1, shifting momentum in the best-of-five encounter on outdoor hard at Flushing Meadows.
